Opening Prayer by Fr Stephen Dunn
Apologies Michael Lynch, Leo and Francis Harris, Lawrence and Margaret Hogarth, Ian Campbell, Ralph Giulianotti.
Minutes 2009 AGM proposed as an accurate record by Maurice Taylor and Mark Dunn and passed.
Matters Arising Members felt that the renovation/relocation of the War Memorial as a good idea, the suggested cost being around £1,500. Some concern was expressed about the Cricket Pavilion and its future. A letter was read out from Pope Benedict’s representative, Monsignor Peter B. Wells, Assessor, Secretariat of State (First Section: General Affairs of the Vatican) replying to Ralph Giulianotti’s letter of welcome to His Holiness on behalf of the FAOBA.
Website This was a valuable communication tool and at present a list of head-teachers and teachers was being compiled, perhaps to be placed on the website.
Committee Report The take-up of the other OB activities was slightly disappointing and there was a need for combining forces between the older and younger generations so as to ensure the continued survival of the organisation.
Treasurer’s Report Subscriptions had fallen from £450 last year to £300. Some 4 or 5 books had been sold. A donation of £500 to Mary’s Meals had been made. The speaker’s fee of £200 was given to charity. The current cash in the bank was £6,482. Maurice Taylor proposed that the War Memorial renovation/relocation should be put in hand (seconded by Mike Turnbull). This would also involve stone cleaning, re-carving the lettering and perhaps gilding the letters.
Elections Following a proposal by Fr Stephen, seconded by Maurice Taylor, the Committee was re-elected.
AOB (Date of Next Meeting)
a. Fr Stephen, seconded by Mark Dunn, proposed that £500 should be given to Fr Giles Connacher, a Cistercian of Pluscarden who was leading a community of monks in Africa. Fr Giles was the nephew of the Carlekemp accountant and had also been taught at Fort Augustus by Fr Augustine Grene.
b. It was suggested by Mike Turnbull, seconded by Fr Stephen, that Colin Petranna should be co-opted onto the committee and this would be followed up. Good wishes were sent to Ralph Giulianotti who was recovering from a recent operation to his knee.
Date of Next AGM and Dinner: Saturday 8 October 2011, Holiday Inn Theatreland, Glasgow.
